Sachidananda Samaddar who lived with his wife Kranti and their two children, reportedly got involved in an extramarital affair with Chandana Mistri from Sonarpur. When Kranti discovered the affair she strongly objected, forcing her husband to break ties with Chandana.

However, Chandana furious over the breakup stormed into Sachidananda’s house with Utpal Mandal in search of him. Upon not finding Sachidananda, Chandana allegedly attacked Kranti with a sharp weapon, injuring her head.
